Shame is universal, a silent epidemic, and one of the most primitive human emotions that we ALL experience. Personal shame isolates us from friends and family, and shame erodes the quality of our lives. Shame may be disguised as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or many other disorders, but the root cause of many issues is shame. Shame is associated with depression, grief, anxiety, eating disorders, and more. The only people who don’t experience shame lack the capacity for empathy and human connections. We are all afraid to talk about shame. Your presenter directs the outpatient treatment and assessment programs at Menninger. He has appeared and been heard on ESPN Outside the Lines, Fox News, National Public Radio, Sirius XM Radio, and KTRH Radio. He holds a doctoral degree with an emphasis in behavioral health and a master’s degree in social work. He is a licensed clinical social worker and chemical dependency counselor, as well as a certified sexual addiction therapist and critical incident stress-debriefing counselor. He spent 12 years providing mental health and addictions services to a major league baseball team and six minor league teams.
