Fall Prevention Workshop 01:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Fall Prevention Workshop 10/7/2019 1:00 PM - 10/7/2019 3:00 PM
One out of three older adults fall each year (65+) and among this population, falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries. Many people who fall, even if not injured, develop a fear of falling. This often times leads to them limiting their activity thus decreasing mobility and loss of physical fitness, and in turn increases their actual risk of falling. This program was designed for those 60 years or older, ambulatory, and able to problem solve. It is for those who have concerns about falling, have fallen in the past, are actively restricted as a result of their fears of falling, and/or interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength. There will be a total of 8 sessions once a week and there is limited space. Please confirm your attendance with staff if you are able to commit to all 8 sessions.

Calligraphy for Beginners 01:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Calligraphy for Beginners 10/8/2019 1:00 PM - 10/8/2019 2:30 PM
Calligraphy is the design and execution of lettering with a broad tip instrument, brush, or other writing instruments. A contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as, "the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner". Modern calligraphy ranges from functional inscriptions and designs to fine-art pieces where the letters may or may not be readable. Classical calligraphy differs from typography and non-classical hand lettering, though a calligrapher may practice both. Instructor asks for all participants to use monoline pens and calligraphy felt pens, not real ink. This will be much easier to manage, especially for those with little or no experience at all.

The first two showings will be the following two Documentaries: "Little Grouse on the Prairie" - a short by a local filmmaker and "Beyond Beauty - Taiwan from Above" - documenting Taiwan from an aerial perspective offering a glimpse of Taiwan's natural beauty as well as the effect of human activities and urbanization on our environment.

Aging in Place Workshop 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Aging in Place Workshop 10/16/2019 11:00 AM - 10/16/2019 12:00 PM
Join local aging-in-place experts, Ms. Segel and Mr. Fitsch-Mouras, to find the proper tools and resources to outsmart physical barriers that may keep you from living alone while maintaining an active, independent lifestyle. Both of them are doing this because they know more often than not, after a fall, a stroke, or simply an arbitrary point decided by family, older members of our community may find themselves relocated to a senior facility because someone has decided that she or he is no longer safe living on their own. Ms. Seger and Mr. Fitsch-Mouras will be happy to share their knowledge to make sure you stay home and keep your same lifestyle for as long as you possibly can.
